Training Wheels

I took a shot around the northwest side of town on Briley Parkway, last night, trying to get a feel for how the People 250 handles at near-Interstate speeds (much of Briley is 65mph on this stretch). Unfortunately for me, it was rather windy (and dark -- d'oh!), which made me less-than-fully-confident in leaning into curves and whatnot. So on the trip back, I took some more sedate roadways. :) All in all, it felt awesome to grab a handful of throttle and really let 'er wail for a while. This damned ugly bike is a beast! The temperature guage barely moved off the "C" mark, even at 65-70mph (ambient temps were ~40°F).

Really, really enjoying this scooter.

  1. UGLY??!?!Are you nuts? The People is one of the best looking scooters out there! Dont make me come up to Nashville and beat some sense into you talking smack about my old scooter!

  2. Heh! Well, don't take it personally... it's the fault of some folks at Kymco who designed it. :) I love the scooter, but my aesthetic tastes run more towards the Majesty/Reflex/Burgman/Xciting world.

However, you're not the only one who rejects my "ugly" label. Some of the comments I've gotten, so far (keeping in mind that no one here has seen a scooter like the People 250, before): "It looks like the Mercedes of scooters"... "Very substantial... if you hadn't told me, I would have called this a motorcycle"... "European, but not Italian, like a Vespa... Vespas are very feminine, but this thing screams 'tough guy'"... "Looks like a VW Bug (taillight) crossed with a Dodge Ram pickup (grille)"...

So, I think it's the coolest thing on two wheels, really -- the Piaggio MP3, as cool as it is, is uglier than homemade pig shit, but I'd love to have one. :) I always thought a guy as heavy as I am looked like a douche riding a Vino, too, but that never stopped me for a minute. ;)

  4. I've had Harley riders ride up behind me at red lights thinking I'm on a vintage motorcycle :)
